“I think [the Seventh Generation Club] is awesome. It’s meeting a need, filling a void, bridging a gap for kids’ need to be recognized for their work, and supported, when they otherwise might not be.” – Chehalis staff member
Edgewater Elementary

As a new club this year, Debra Murray, club coordinator, arranged to have 15 minutes of Club time, once a month at the beginning of the day. This “circle time” is very important in allowing the students to share in their culture and support each other. She uses the meetings to hand out newsletters, and talk about contests and upcoming events. Events and contest entries are posted on their Club bulletin board.
Debra’s motivation to keep the students involved stems from the huge self-esteem boost that she sees every time a student wins a prize. Through the Club and the Canucks’ participation, they are able to feel part of a larger, province-wide community, and this really gives them a step up!
In addition to the Seventh Generation Club, Debra also runs an Aboriginal Club that meets once a week during recess, and has planned an Aboriginal sports day and a pow wow for all students to take part in. Well done, Debra!
